eLearning Specifications
Presentation Design Guidelines
E-learning guidelines should include:
- Style guidelines for headings, numbers, names, punctuation,
and capitalization
- Corporate identity
- Graphics guidelines
- Screen designs
- Page layouts
Quality Guidelines
Quality of the elearning scenario is measured in terms of :
- Quality or design requirements for new applications
- Maximum time that a web page takes to load
- Maximum graphic size per web page
- Measures to be used to evaluate effectiveness of both the training
, and mode of training.
Performance Measurement Considerations
The method used to measure training results differ in an eLearning
environment than in a standard face to face training environment.
Depending on the measurement methodology currently used, you may
need to change your measures.
Participant evaluations or standardized test methods are easily
incorporated in e-learning programs.
Other measures, such as 'the number of hours of training each employee
receives' are not appropriate to eLearning enviroments. This is
because the number of hour per employee is likely to go down. However,
this does not indicate a reduction in time spent by trainers - in
reality, trainers spend more time per program than when the course
was delivered using conventional methods.
For companies that measure performance, competencies, and intellectual
capital, using certification programs, portfolio assessments, and
online job assessments, it is important to measure business results
such as gains in productivity or the shortening of a learning curve.
For example, a production worker may learn how to use a new piece
of equipment in a week using eLearning, compared to the month using
the previous method. This productivity gain should be measured and
reported.
