Kindle Book Reader or iPhone

More many executives, time is a critical asset. So many seek to use commute times to network or catch up on the latest business updates or a bit of thought leadership. One thing that has made this easier is Amazons latest release of its electronic book reader, Kindle 2. Kindle provides you with a catalog of 240,000 electronic books, dowloadable wirelessly to the Kindle, via the Sprint cellular network.

And now, if you prefer to keep your breifcase uncluttered, you can also buy and read all these books on an iPhone or an iPod Touch - no Kindle book reader required.

Kindle

Kindle offers the ultimate in information on the move with:

  • One-click book buying
  • Newspapers on demand
  • Forty-five-second book downloading
  • One-click book reading

Apple iPhone / iPod Touch

Download the free Kindle reader software to your iPhone or Touch from the App Store .

Enter your Amazon name and password, one time

Check the Archived folder for any books you have previously purchased from Amazon's e-book store, either on the Kindle, Mac or PC.

Just one tap to download and start reading

To turn the pages, just flick you finger across the touch screen. You can change the font size by tapping the "Aa" button - five different sizes are available

When you stop reading, the service remembers where you stopped, making it easy to pick up where you left off next time you have a few minutes to indulge.

So far, only books are available on the iPhone/Touch - maybe newspapers, magazines and blogs will be available at a later date, but nothing is being indicated at present.

Not all Kindle features are available on the iPhone version - you cannot buy new books from the Kindle app - you have to switch to your web browser to shop online. Nor can the iPhone version read text out loud to you, as the Kindle can with certain books.

I am sure that other items on the wish list will appear eventually, such as landscape-oriented reading [thought that would be a no brainer up front], built-in dictionary, choice of fonts, and new annotations.

Seems Amazon is moving more into the profitable middle ground to ignite new interest in the whole e-book concept following the path of other software and hardware vendors into an e-books as a service model.
